Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee Celebrates Community at the Mountlake Terrace Juneteenth Celebration 2026

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. — The Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee (SCBHC) proudly participated in the Mountlake Terrace Juneteenth Celebration 2026, continuing its long-standing commitment to preserving Black history, promoting cultural awareness, and strengthening community connections throughout Snohomish County.

As communities across the nation gathered to commemorate Juneteenth, the federal holiday recognizing the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, the Mountlake Terrace celebration brought together residents, civic leaders, educators, artists, and families for a day dedicated to reflection, education, unity, and celebration.

The Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee played an active role in engaging attendees through educational outreach, historical storytelling, and community conversations highlighting the rich contributions of African Americans to the region's history and future. Committee members welcomed visitors of all ages, encouraging meaningful dialogue about Black history while inspiring future generations to embrace cultural pride and community service.

"Our mission has always been to preserve our history while building stronger communities," said representatives of the Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee. "Juneteenth is not only a celebration of freedom but also an opportunity to educate, inspire, and ensure that the stories of those who came before us continue to be remembered."

Throughout the event, families enjoyed live entertainment, cultural performances, local artists, educational exhibits, youth activities, community organizations, and Black-owned businesses. The atmosphere reflected the spirit of Juneteenth—celebrating resilience, achievement, hope, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

The committee also used the event to encourage community participation in its expanding historical preservation efforts, including initiatives that document personal stories, family histories, photographs, and cultural experiences that help preserve the legacy of Black communities throughout Snohomish County.

As one of the county's leading organizations dedicated to Black history and cultural preservation, the Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee continues to build partnerships with schools, libraries, municipalities, nonprofits, and community organizations to expand educational programming and create opportunities for year-round engagement.

The committee is also preparing for one of its signature annual events, the 33rd Annual Nubian Jam, where thousands gather to celebrate African and African American culture through music, art, education, youth activities, food, community resources, and family entertainment. The organization's participation in the Mountlake Terrace Juneteenth Celebration reflects its ongoing mission of extending that spirit of unity and cultural celebration throughout the region.

As Juneteenth continues to grow in significance across the country, the Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee remains dedicated to ensuring that history is not only remembered but shared, celebrated, and passed on to future generations.

Through education, community engagement, and cultural celebration, the committee continues to demonstrate that preserving Black history is a collective responsibility—one that strengthens communities, builds understanding, and inspires lasting change.
