Nubian Jam History

In 1993, a group of friends reunited at a funeral and realized they didn’t want to only come together in times of loss. They made a decision to intentionally gather to celebrate life, community, and culture—creating space to reconnect, share stories, and honor their heritage across generations.

That same year, during the City of Everett’s centennial, Marilyn Quincy and other Black community leaders advocated for inclusion, recognizing that Black families had long been part of the region’s history. Their efforts ensured that those stories and contributions were acknowledged and celebrated.

From that vision, the first Nubian Jam was born—a community celebration rooted in fellowship, culture, and pride. What started as a small gathering has grown into one of the longest-standing cultural celebrations in Snohomish County, continuing to honor the past while uplifting the present.

Today, Nubian Jam offers something for everyone. The event features activities for children, arts and crafts, a youth basketball tournament, car show, fashion show, and live entertainment. Attendees can explore vendor booths, enjoy cultural displays and historical exhibits, access healthcare and educational resources, and experience youth talent on display. A core part of the celebration includes honoring elders while creating space for young people to express themselves and thrive.

Held annually at Forest Park in Everett from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Nubian Jam is free and open to the public. With a festival-style atmosphere, the event brings together food, retail, and community partners in a family-friendly environment. Throughout the day, guests experience performances, storytelling, and messages from community leaders, creating a space rooted in unity, culture, and connection.
