Help Build the Black History Archive at the 33rd Annual Nubian Jam

EVERETT, Wash. — The 33rd Annual Nubian Jam is expanding its celebration of African and African American culture by inviting the community to become part of history through a special initiative to build the Black History Archive. The project encourages residents, families, and community members to preserve personal stories, photographs, artwork, and memories that reflect the rich heritage of Black communities throughout Snohomish County and beyond.

Presented in partnership with the Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee and the Everett Public Library, this interactive experience reminds participants that preserving history begins with everyday people and the stories they choose to share.

The exhibit carries a simple yet powerful message:

"Together, We Preserve Our Heritage."

Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Nubian Jam Floral Hall on July 26 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to contribute to this living archive by sharing memories, family traditions, photographs, and experiences that celebrate Black history and culture.

The Black History Archive experience will feature a variety of hands-on activities designed for all ages, including:

• Storytelling Sessions

• Mini Storybook Creation

• Journaling

• Community Art Making

• Audio & Video Recording Opportunities

• Memory Preservation Activities

• Family Heritage Sharing

Whether participants choose to preserve their stories for future generations or simply create keepsakes for their own families, every contribution helps strengthen the historical record of the community.

Organizers believe that history is built one story at a time.

"Every picture has a story, every story matters." That inspiring message serves as the foundation of the Black History Archive initiative, recognizing that family photographs, personal experiences, neighborhood memories, and cultural traditions are invaluable pieces of history that deserve to be documented and shared.

As one of Snohomish County's longest-running cultural celebrations, the 33rd Annual Nubian Jam continues its mission of honoring the past while inspiring future generations through education, culture, community engagement, and celebration.

Community members of all backgrounds are invited to participate in this meaningful project and help ensure that the voices, experiences, and accomplishments of Black families continue to be preserved for generations to come.
